Unique mixed media sculptures of recycled metals, stone and other materials.
Bobbi Rubingh, Sculptor
Outdoor art has always appealed to me, especially recycled metal sculptures. When my Dad left me his old wire-feed welder, I decided it was time to try creating my own art.
Having no welding experience, I took workshops in art welding at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico and the 23rd Street Studio in Denver, and began creating in 2009. I'm inspired by nature, children at play, southwestern culture, other artists, and the unique materials I find while foraging through junk yards, and estate sales.
Sometimes I imagine the piece and search for the materials I need. Other times, the materials tell me what to create, and I just go with it. I love the challenge of taking an object and changing it into something completely different with my tools and imagination. Many of my pieces are made with metal and stone. I like the feeling of permanence they bring to a sculpture, yet constantly change with the seasons. When doing custom pieces, I seek input from the clients...incorporating their personality into each unique creation.
